This letter was written by the Compiler of the Christian Century Journal of Religion to Edwin. He tells Edwin how appreciative he is in the matter of giving him his anthology. Zona Gale has given a brief for an introduction to it. He will send Edwin 5 copies upon publication. Thomas also has the letter from Edwin's secretary asking about a book being prepared on "Poems of the Social Awakening", which hs been changed to "Poems of Jucstice."

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). Zona Gale was a prominent writer and political activist born in Portage, Wisconsin. Gale attended the University of Wisconsin and worked as a reporter in Milwaukee. Gale, a lifelong friend of Jane Addams, became involved in the fight for the women's vote and eventually went to work for the writer Edmund Clarence Stedman.
